Winchesters were made in America, by Americans, for Americans.
My peeps hailed from New Haven. Grandad worked in the factory.

A really smart guy once told me not to judge the "other guy" by how much you have in your pocket.
Too rich for your blood doesn't mean the next guy can't afford to have what he'd like.
Though you may not, I see plenty of value in these fine doubles.
(p.s. A BSS is no slouch, but it's not a Model 21)

Top 3 are 20's followed by a 12

Oh yeah, one more, a 16 gauge at an even 6 lbs.

All of those are beauties Bob,
I probably would have a hard time talking myself out of one of them, the one I found yesterday doesn't compare to any of them and neither does the one I looked at this am that was priced at 9K, again no special features, no special options but this one was as new.

There was a lot more involved here than just the chopper lumps. The 21 was designed to use as much machine work as then capabilities allowed & it was priced competitively. It is a strong well built gun but what has driven the prices is Winchester Collectors, make no mistake about it.
Miller: I think you are right re the Winchester collector. But, I also believe the fact that only 30,000 were produced (relative scarcity), combined with the fact they are well made has something to do with it too. Also, Galazan charging an arm and a leg for his reproduction 21's hasn't helped the matter either.

I have long wanted a 16 gauge Model 21 with a straight grip, double triggers, splinter forend, 28 inch barrels and weighing no more than 6-1/2 pounds. I'd take one with either extractors or ejectors. I've never seen one so configured at any price.

Gents, here is my lineup of M21's I use for hunting:
1) 20 gauge, mod/full, 6lbs 8oz circa 1952;
2) 16 gauge, imp cyl/imp mod, 6lbs 8oz, circa 1935;
3) 12 gauge "Duck", mod/full, 7lbs 4oz, circa 1949.
I think I have it covered!

Is 3500 a price you pay and smile?

Honest wear is what I would want on old double. It is your money. I would not pay and smile but in todays market it is worth $3500. It is wrong to think of this piece as a shotgun it is better thought of as hedge against inflation. After very long search my hunting rifle turned out to be hard kicking Model 88 .308 made in first of this model production. It is hard to imagine niceer or better handling mass produced rifle. When it comes to guns Winchester rifles are far better than their shotguns. With Remington it's just the opposite. Are you sure you do not want Depression Era Wonder aka Remington model 32? wink

PS. I do not like to be cruel, but if one is young enough time is on their side. I suspect when baby boomers are gone the prices will go down. As one local dealer told higher grade Parker owner "I like your fine double but can't offer you reasonable price for it because my clients that would buy that gun from me are gone". There is very good reason when it comes to game guns I hunt for O/U guns and one day I may even tell you why.
