The Warsaw uprising - and other ghetto uprisings in Eastern Europe - had nothing to do with German gun control laws. They took place in occupied territories - which are traditionally subject to gun confiscation regardless of the occupier.
Nor did any ghetto uprising succeed in preventing the Holocaust or significantly reducing its horrific toll. In most cases, the ghetto uprisings took place after tens of thousands of Jews, gypsies, and other people the Nazis deemed "undesireable", had already been shipped off to slaughter. Sadly, they achieved too little - and too late.

I don't believe that if the Jews had been armed the holocaust would have been prevented, but I do believe that it could have saved some lives and made things more difficult for the Nazis to accomplish in their "final solution". Anyone foolish enough to think that our government can stop guns from flowing over our borders needs to be reminded of how drugs flow over our borders and how alcohol used to flow over our borders during Prohibition. The lessons of banning something are painfully clear from Prohibition and the current War on Drugs. One would think an island nation like England would have the easiest time stopping gun smugglers, but their crime rates show otherwise. Why do the English and the Australians oil their gardens? SO THEIR GUNS DON'T RUST!!!!

"I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep over something as Orwellian as this proposal coming to pass. I'm far more concerned that legal gun ownership in the US will die the death of 1000 cuts - one "reasonable" restriction at a time."
Orwellian? Wars are being waged in Afghanistan and Iraq by Canadian and American one-man governments which are not supported by the majority of their citizens. We've been gulled to violate liberty ostensibly for freedom.
Canada is currently implicit in a human rights scandal involving torture of prisoners turned over to Afghan police and security services in violation of the Geneva Convention. It may bring the government down.
At the rate we're going, looking the other way while the Bill and Charter are infringed, it won't take 1,000 cuts. We're as culpable as the antis in this respect.

http://ace.mu.nu/archives/224379.php#224379 Deconstructing Simpson...the author hits his stride on 'Disarming' after a few preliminary paras. Apparently the issue is being picked up around on the 'Net now. There are quite a few reports of heartfelt messages sent to Mssr's Simpson and his employers. Please don't forget to convey your own sentiments to the provided links. They will do a lot more good landing in the Homeland of Misconceptions than languishing in out of the way sites, read only by other gunners. Don't forget to have fun.
Relax; we're all experts here.

Dear King,
I read your sorrow.
While not apologizing for Geneva violations on the part of the West, they are pale and thin, compared to the mass murders of Saddam and the Taliban.
Is the world a better place with Saddam dead? Is the Taliban what we would call a humane administrator of human rights? The war atrocities which may be laid at the feet of American soldiers, from WW2, Korea, and even now, do not bear comparison to the outright barbarism of the foes we have faced.
I know you to be an exemplar of civil belief and behavior. However, as an empire, this country is pretty half-hearted about exercising true Imperial behavior.
Perhaps had we exercised the ruthlessness necessary to attain the title and keep it, then there would be a Pax Americana where raising the flag of agression or force anywhere in the world would be known as the assured beginning of the end for those provacateurs.
But we are not ruthless enought in character, much preferring to mind out own biz, normally. Unless, of course one has the political beliefs of our subject, Mr Simpson, for whom utter wasting of our political structure is of little account in obtaining his utopia. Our friend Sholzynytsin documented very well the actions and consequences of having such 'compotent authorities' run the nation.
I submit that this is going to be a very messy century, with unheard of civilian casualites, internal strife, and completely unforseen mass apocalyptic events -- much like the 20th century, but less Eurocentric in it's historical counter-forces. It will be well if the Genevea convention may be adhered to, but given such sweet moments as Bosnia and what has followed, I have really pondered if fate will not see obliterations of populaces and places, in a madness that will rival the combined deaths of the master murders: Stalin, Hitler, and Mao-Tsung.
Peace upon you friend, but I do not see it coming from the declaration of Civil War issued by Simpson, nor by a small fringe of extremists for whom a martyr's death is the highest good, while slaying mass quantites of infidels.
"Why do Canadians and Australians oil their gardens?"
"So their guns don't rust."
Bada-boom.
Relax; we're all experts here.

This great gun elimination scheme has about as much a chance and Rossie's next diet. The Government is a very inefficient organization and it operates on the basic principle of getting 80%-85% of the goal and declaring total success. For example, look at the IRS and their own reports point to hundred of billions of taxes not collected because of cheating, illegal workers not paying taxes and lack of resources to run audits to catch cheaters.
If the gun conficastion is done at less than 100% it will be a total bust. Worse, the governement hates to take on a task that they know they can not do. This is the reason that they refuse to close the borders. It would take a WWII type effort to do the job and there is not the political guts, in any leader or party, to assume the task. 911 did not scare them enough to close the borders. What makes anyone here think one deranged mentally ill person will cause the governemnt to try to do this task? On top of that it would take the violation of about half of the Constitution to do it and I do not see anyone with that much guts to try. This will all end up as smoke, noise and more worthless laws.

Will hiding your snub-nose .38 in the rose garden, make-up for the loss of your most prized shotgun[s] - if and when the time comes? Don't think so! I think we like the sporting, and old chappie part of these firearms. ...and not the take it to the streets part. Sitting by the fire, with a congac and waxing that garden snub-nose isn't my cup of tea! Better start the good fight now.

Why not, indeed. They are going to have plenty of vicious cops. From raiding Iraqi houses as soldiers to raiding our dwellings as future cops! A soldier and a cop is a different horn on the same goat.

Take this article to the women's studies at the U of Cal in Berkley. See if they don't agree 100% with it. You'll not be the only one voting in 08
