There is a bitter little secret pertaining to the imigration issue, and why no elected government is interested in closing the borders, or expelling illegal workers.
As a whole, they pay taxes. Foremost among those, social security taxes. That they will never collect. It is the ace in the hole of the great ponzi scheme (social security) foisted on depression weary Americans by the democrats, and now clearly understood by every politician.
IF anyone wanted the US border with Mexico closed, it could be done in a week, with existing technology and military precision-it's called a minefield. It would be no trick at all, and, likely, cheaper than any stupid, ineffective fence some politico dreamed up. It will never happen, as, like it or not, the ponzi scheme is now and future dependant on the theft of funds from undocumented workers. The ponzi scheme WILL collapse under the weight of itself, but, it is in the best interest of currently elected officials to see that that happens as far down the road from their election, as possible.
The undocumenteds, are, a freebie. Too valuable for any elected politician to squander.
The discussion of the authors writings, and as to whether they are satirical in nature misses the point-he clearly articulates what anti-gun groups want to hear, and gives foundation to their ongoing attempts to make their wishes so, at the expense of whatever liberties (and, they are few) remain in contemporary US society. The battle cry of the 'weeni "If it saves even one life", has been used preempt too much of what we once took for granted, and I find no satire in it anymore, regardless of the intent of the writer.
Just for the record, I don't believe it was satire, anymore than I believe it was satire to create completely unarmed and defenseless college campuses for psychotic cowards to exploit in their final meltdowns. Even if that is what it seems like, in hindsight.
Best,
Ted
