Seriously, consider the history of the white exodus to America from European oppression, and the black exodus from Africa to New World plantations.

Over time we recognized oppression as a denial of our most cherished values. Over time, societies will find a balance with safety and our use of guns.

And, Jagermeister, we wouldn't have needed to go overseas to find fascist Bunds and Nazi sympathisizers in our midst. No one picked up guns because they were us.
