Eightbore you know people. They want to pay two hundred a year for a million in coverage with instant service and no paper work. Back when I used insurance heavily for my collection I paid more than 1 1/4 %, had to document everything and still was not sure that I would be covered for all losses. If I changed the big ticket guns I had to update information to cover what replaced them or I paid for insurance for gun I no longer owned

After three ivory league college educations for the kids big ticket guns are no longer a problem. With two more to go I might be able to keep my future gun collection under my side of the bed. Going to be a lot of room in the gun room for a while.

Make sure you know what your home owners insurance covers. Many of them don't cover the guns if they are damaged outside the home or while traveling or shipping. That's where damage is most likely to occur if you are a hunter. They may be fine for a collection but not likely for firearms that are used.

That's why I like Sportsmen's Insurance Agency, it covers the losses that I'm most likely to encounter.

What does anyone know about Steve Boyett & Associates gun insurance underwritten by AXA-Art. I got a quote from them for $68,500.00 gun insurance and was quoted $103.00 annual. Same coverage on Collectables insurance that I now have is $428.00. I am a retired insurance agent and checked the AXA policy and looks OK. Seems too good to be true , but AXA insures most of the largest museums in the US. They are a world wide company and very large and sold. Any experience with them out there? Thanks guys!

That rate sounds more realistic than others quoted on this thread. Gary, do you agree that the rates quoted by earlier posters are over the top? Are people really paying these crooks those premiums?

That's a great rate and less then I've seen elsewhere. However it would be helpful to see what's covered exactly and what the limitations on the policy may be.

The policy has the usual clauses such as no coverage for wear and tear and no coverage if a gunsmith or anyone screws up a gun by botched restoration attempts or repairs. The biggest one I saw
was no coverage if gun stolen while in an unlocked auto or a locked auto with no security system active.
That does seem to be a fantastic rate because the average I see is in the 400 range for that much insurance. I owned a Nationwide Agency and their rates were about the 400 range and they really didn't like to insure guns (at least the PIA underwriter that I had!) From what I found out, AXA is the real deal and I am going with them.
