Nero and SKB,
I was under the impression that the problem with the smaller martinis is the diameter of the barrel. If the model 12 has a thicker action it is moot if the barrel is the problem...... I not saying I know what I am talking about, just asking questions to learn.

Also is the waters too long to slide in and out.

I would love to do a 7mm waters on the martini I bough from SKB.

Hi Jerry,
you will find that the 7mm Waters is ok to use in the small BSA Martini action.
Great variety of bullets in 7mm and even using 160 grainers I find no no problem with recoil with these little light weight rifles. Great for old guys like me if you are carrying it all day.
Using the thicker side wall Martini is a must when using it for anything over the 222 Rem. case. Not that you need it to increase the strength of the frame but to put more meat around the barrel shank.
If your gunsmith knows what he is doing he will time the breech block so that if you want to carry the rifle loaded you can insert a round into the chamber holding the lever down, the lever is then released slightly but not closed and and the breech block will them hold the round in place to stop it falling out. Or only place a round in halfway and the breech block will hold the cartridge like that and stop it falling out as well. Which is what I do.
That way if you fall off a cliff or something the breech cannot close which could be dodgy if your finger is anywhere near the trigger.
Or don't bother with any of that and only load when ready to fire as most people will tell you is the way to go.
Regards, Roly.

For whatever it is worth, 30-30 head size is about max for the small martini, due to the thread size as stated above. If a cartridge based on this case gives trouble chambering, due to being straight, try reducing rim dia, don't grind breach block.

.25-35 is about perfect for a Cadet, IMO. But then I like quarter-bores.... (But of course we all know a .25-35 just won't kill deer!)

Personally I don't see much point in a repeating rifle for most of the hunting I do. Don't need the meat, so if I have to pass up a shot, so what? My little buddy can track, so if the shot I do take isn't immediately lethal, I'd go back to the truck, get the beagle, and go get the critter. Haven't had to yet, but I helped a guy (who had a Rem 742) find a buck a few years back and the beagle trick worked fine. Like using a guided missile, just better melody.
