.25-35 is about perfect for a Cadet, IMO. But then I like quarter-bores.... (But of course we all know a .25-35 just won't kill deer!)
Personally I don't see much point in a repeating rifle for most of the hunting I do. Don't need the meat, so if I have to pass up a shot, so what? My little buddy can track, so if the shot I do take isn't immediately lethal, I'd go back to the truck, get the beagle, and go get the critter. Haven't had to yet, but I helped a guy (who had a Rem 742) find a buck a few years back and the beagle trick worked fine. Like using a guided missile, just better melody.
