Tim, I think it's just that the guns aren't parallel that gives that impression of different stock dimensions. The shape and radius of The M17's pistol grip and fuller checkering coverage are more pleasing to my eye. The game scenes on the Ithaca are so crisp as to appear hand chased. It may be that the rollers are so fresh and new that the cuts are more crisp than what appears on my later made M37's wherein the rollers became worn. 1939 was the first year of sales for the 20 gauge M37.
