Shane, for $500 that is a good buy even with some of the flaws. The barrel length is uncommon but I have one with that length also, the thing that is uncommon is that it has Good Damascus instead of Chain Damascus. I'm guessing it was ordered with them.
The "J" spring could be the reason, but I would try to straighten it a little if it is bent. Putting a new "J" spring sometimes will and will not work as they have to be fitted to the gun. Getting one that is short, and there is no way to fix that.
The for-end screw is a #6 5/8" long.
