Here's what uncut L.C. Smith Gr. 3 barrels should look like. Fluid steel Fulton gun cir. 1907. Notice the beveled rib edge.

I would be very hesitant without having correctly measured wall thickness and expert assessment of any pitting.

Shane,
JMC is correct about the "bevels" at the muzzle on Grade 3's. Out of curiosity I just looked at all my 3's, and they all have this feature. However, apparently this does not apply to all pre-13 guns, as none of my 00's or 0's have this feature, and all letter as to barrel length.

+2....I'd pass on that gun Shane, it looks like Wilbur and Waldo have been beating on that P.O.S. L.C. Smith with steel hammers and screw drivers, it's a wonder anything fits and probably doesn't.........let someone who doesn't care buy it.........

Thanks for the muzzle photos gentlemen. That's a great indicator for sure! For a number of reasons I have decided to pass. A. It's more of a project than I want. B. The season is coming on and I have setters to train and invest in! C. I already have one too many projects honestly.

Not all Qlty/Grade 2's or 3's up had the bevel at the end of the barrels. It seems that all grades from 2 up after 1900 had the bevel and some did before this, but not all.

Great thread. Just learned a few things about LCs. Have a quick question on the Grade 3s. Does anyone have any idea if there were many with English stocks produced? I

The record books before 1918 did not give much of a description of special features, but you could get a straight stock on any gun if ordered.

An example is the gun pictured above to the left, it is a No.2E with a straight stock with Crown Steel barrels, the one on the right is also a No.2E full pistol grip, the letter on this one states that it has 30" barrels, but does not state that they are Finest Damascus, which is unusual for a No.2 they usually came on a No.4. But in one column it states gun weighs 9 lbs. and shoots extremely close. The extra weight is from a 7/8" hole drilled into the stock and filled with lead.
Both have the first style ejectors.

The butt plate is uncommon and again a special order, showing two dogs on point. This was not a Hunter Arms butt plate.
