another definition of fanatic:
one who wants it all to be their way and refuses to accept the right of others to want it to be another way.
The "Right" of others? What does that mean to you? Does the "Right" of others include their ability to force, using the power of the State, their views on others? You know, like a semi-divine ruling class?

I believe that's from FDR. Jim It's from Lewis W. Douglas, FDR's Director of the Bureau of the Budget, who resigned after only one year on the job. Virtually all of FDR's actions were contrary to what he campaigned on, as well as against the official 1932 platform of the Democrat party. And people think Obama was somehow an intellectual originalist.

right of others, you know, like respecting the views of others as you would wish them to repect your views.

what does a right wing fanatic believe in?
its not so much of a what, as it is a how...
example: the literal intpretation of most any written word, with out respect for a different intrepretation by others...

Ed,
My point about "Rights" is that YOUR (all people's) "Rights" end when you attempt to sociopathically inflict your views on others against their will. That usually happens when when someone is forced to pay for other people's stuff via a government program. This is clearly an involuntary exchange of goods and services and is Statist Neoslavery.
There is no difference between Right and Left wing extremism, both are forms of religious statism that denies the concept of individual freedom and equality. To demonize those who believe in individual freedom as such merely falls into the statist sociopathic religious lexicon, and is preposterous on an intellectual level.

and fanatics are incapable of respectful debate nor do they have the capacity to reach interlectual compromise with those who hold views different from their own.

not true. without respectful debate and the ability to compromise one can accomplish very little of lasting value.
the dems have accomplished much in the last 70 + years, as have the republicans.
one may not agree with all of their accomplishments, but one should acknowledge their success at reaching their goals.
sadly, obamacare was not accomplished with respectful debate nor compromise. so, as a result it will have no lasting value, except as an example of how not to conduct the business of government. medicare d however, is an example of how to conduct the business government.
keep it simple and keep it safe...

Ed,
Your level of knowledge of American history is appalling. There has been nothing but a relentless assault on constitutional freedom for the past 100+ years, ever since the beginning of the "Progressive Movement" It's been "Progressively Statist". There has been NO substantive reversal of this movement, hence no compromise by the Statists. There have been short term lapses and slow-downs, but no reversals. Government has grown, and freedom has shrunk. This is undeniable. Except for statist religious sociopaths, where denial is a part of their faith-based, unconstitutional, sociopathic beliefs. I'm not sure if you fit that definition, but other's who post on this board certainly do.
