This may sound strange but I want to fire RST 2 1/2
shells in a 2 3/4 chambered gun. The gun is a H&H 12b built in 1892 and rebarreled in 1965 by H&H.I believe the gun was originally chambered for 2 1/2 because it weighs 6 1/2 lbs
Would the long chamber have an adverse effect on the pattern?

Chamber length isn't whats changing the pattern, its the load itself. Pattern it to see.

Hi, FWIW, I've shot a lot of RST 2 1/2" loads in my 2 3/4" guns and can't tell any ill effects at all. The birds still drop dead if I do my part.

Just go ahead and use them and don't get wrapped around the axle with worry over nothing.

Good Luck!

Greg

Just like shooting 2-3/4" loads in your 3" chambered guns. Will be fine.

You are all probably right but all my guns with 3" chambers have extended forcing cones. Barrels made in 1965, in England, are likely to have a much older style designed for wad columns.

I will pattern test the gun with both.
