I am considering purchasing a machine inletted, nicely figured stock and forend from Wenig for a Win. M-21. The stock on the M-21 is too short for me, but I'll keep it to retain the gun's originality.

I have good hand tools and am experienced using them.

If anyone has bought one of their stocks, what has been your experience doing the final inletting? Were you happy with the wood you received?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Don't know if this will help but I sent a blank and had them rough inlet it. This was not a bad project and it turned out very nice. I did pick the blank so I kind of knew what I was getting back. I spent more time inletting tue forend and getting it right than the buttstock.

Not my business but why not get your own blank and then you will get what you want.

Hope this helps.

Regards, Gordon

Mark, Gordon is right --- buy your own blank and save the mark-up. Fred Wenig will do a fine job for you ! Ken

I sent a blank to be rough inletted by them.
The stocker that I used to complete the job, ran into some problems with it. Good chance that if he did, you will as well.
It turned out ok but I get the feeling that I'd have been just as well off to have started from scratch.

I know people who have had good luck with him, and know people who have been very dissatisfied with Wenig. On a gun at the price point of a M21, I would not use Wenig. If it were a cheap clunker that really did not matter, then it would be different.

I suggest you call Shane Thompson 208-547-0383 and talk to him about your project.

I used Wenig on a very high quality Turkish blank for a K-80. The inletting was within .005 to .010 under size. Because I wanted a high comb it was very high and a lot of wood was in the pistol grip area. I would say sort of fat but very useable. He was not cheap!

I have a nice stock and forearm that came off a Grade Six 21, its English walnut I beleive. Here is the story, I purchased this set and its at a friends house and he was going to refinish it for me. He started it but never finished, so its somewhat in a semi finished state. He seems to have lost intrest in completing it. I would like to sell it "as is", I beleive it had "A"style checkering.

I ordered a Ruger one stock from Wenig. Wood was nice but expensive, It also was not the quality I would put on a 21 and it cost $1000. Inletting was fine. Dr. Dozier sends with kidnest regards.
