I have purchased a couple of machine inletted stocks from Wenig over the past 4 or 5 years. I have also had them restock an L.C. Smith, a Fox, and a Parker from start to finish. I was disappointed with the "semi inletted" stocks, as the inletting wasn't even close. Might just as well have started with a blank. I was extremely pleased with the restock jobs they did, although I furnished my own wood. Inletting was as close to perfect as you can get, finish was very nice, checkering matched original exactly and was perfectly executed. Price and turnaround time? Somewhat of a shocker the first time around on both counts.

Please give me the onfo on your mdl. 21 stock and forearm. English stock or Pistol grip sliver or Beavertail forearm. 12 gauge? Off of a Double or Single trigger gun if it makes a difference. Can you email photos? Thanks

I've used Wenig for duplicating on 3 occasions. Each job was where I furnished stock and fore and my own blank. My take is that they are adequate for my needs and budget(one job they did was subpar but salvageable). Their price point is attractive if basic machining is all you need...$240-$275. You must have patience and good wood skills to finish the job properly. As stated above, they leave a lot of wood in the grip. All Wenig's other products i.e. final inletting, wood, finishing are expensive and to me not worth their price. I have a stock job there now and we'll see what they will do with it, I'm sure it will be okay. There are more precise guys out there who will mill to better tolerances. Shane Thompson and John Vest 541-923-8898 were fellows sent to me by reliable sources but will cost $375-$500. In most cases I'd recommend spending the little extra money; I prefer to do things as cheaply as practically possible since this is a hobby and I can make up the diff in sweat equity. In no case would I send a sidelock to Wenig again but boxlocks are pretty easy. If you can, furnish your own blank...no surprises and you can lay it out to your liking. Good luck, the effort will be worth it.

Its a nice stock and forearm, pistol grip and beavertail. I presently have it at a friends house and he was going to refinish it. He has lost intrest and its only partially completed. I purchased it from another guy and never installed on my 21, what I remamber it had some drop and also had a Winchester pad. LOP was around 14 1/2" I beleive the stock was made and not original. Wood I beleive was English walnut. Also it was on a single trigger gun.

Seems that replies are mixed on Wenigs.
I priced their "Excellent" grade American walnut. It would cost about $375. I would like the stock to finish at 15" to a butt plate. This would make it a custom job adding another $45.
A finished stock would run, as I remember, about $1,400.
At this price, I'll do the finishing.
I do have decent woodworking skills, a Foredom rotary tool, and a modecum of patience.
Perhaps I'll contact some of the names mentioned, before I make my decision.
Since I do not have access to stock blanks locally as some suggested, I'll have to trust somebody as to the quality of their blank.

Contact any of the various wood suppliers mentioned here. You should. Request photos of both sides but almost anyone recommended here is of good repute and would want you to be happy with your blank. There is also a guy on ebay known as analretentivegm that has nice blanks at reasonable prices. It's really not risky when you're dealing with the straight shooters and there are several. At $1400 (does that include checkering?) you can do pretty well on your own by subbing the machining and checkering out and buying a nice blank on your own. My perspective on the matter, of course.

Show Me Gunstocks in Warsaw , Mo. will semi-inlet a butt stock blank that you send them for less than $100.00 for Fox guns. I have had several Fox stocks semi-inlet and he is also reasonable when you buy the wood from him! They all turned out great!Win. 21 should run about same price. Bobby

I have another M-21 who's stock fits me very well. I could send it as a pattern. Yes, the $1400 was a completed stock. I figured that I could save a few bucks by finishing it my self and contracting out the checkering. The original checkering was the basic field pattern.

Since I do not have access to stock blanks locally as some suggested, I'll have to trust somebody as to the quality of their blank. I would advise against that. After all the whole point is get the stock of your choice. Contact Cecil Fredi. Let him know what the project is and how much you are willing to spend on the wood blank. He will email some pictures to you. If you want to see more, tell him, if you want close ups of certain blanks, just let him know. He is easy to work with, has a huge inventory and goes out of his way to please. http://www.gunstockblanks.com/If you have the pattern you want, give Ed Shulin a call. He does the carving for a reasonable price. You can finish the stock yourself and then either checker it or find someone to do the checkering. Ed Shulin 16511 Co. Rd. 75. If you like, I have many many blanks and would be happy to find you one you would be happy with. Total and complete money back guarantee. I recently bought out the entire inventory of a long time and well known gunstock blank company from central California. I have English, Bastone and Claro. I took eight of them to the Southern and Ken Hurst was nice enough to let me put them on one of his tables. Some of you may have seen them there. If you are interested, let me know and I will email you pictures of them. Let me know what you are looking for. Most of those on this board want English. But, for a 21 Claro might be more authentic. I have beautiful blanks in any of the types of wood. Best Regards, Jake
