Sorry - took me a minute to find this. As part of the tensile strength testing, Dennis Potter graciously provided (among other samples) a segment of Remington 3200 c. 80s barrel, before the change from AISI 1140 carbon steel.
(See Loitz vs. Remington Arms Co., Inc., and Supreme Court of Illinois opinion filed Sept. 19, 1990. The subsequent Garza Class Action settlement participation eligibility ended 12-1-1996)
Measured tensile strength was 121,000 psi, which is about 15,000 psi MORE than the industrial standard for 4140 gun barrel chrome-moly steel.
So Remington paid out a bunch of money for defective barrels, which were...like...not?? Confusing huh?

Sometimes it is cheaper to settle, even if you are not in the wrong. FACT. Today's court cases have nothing to do with right, wrong, or justice. The myriad of laws and motions have turned the whole thing into the equivalent of a giant board game, and to win you hire the best players. The details of the settlement were sealed by court order at the request of the parties. Remington did NOT recall any barrels, and anyone who wanted could get $50 per barrel. If you really wanted another barrel I know they did that for at least one individual. I didn't take a dime. The did lighten the rollmarking and rollmarking placement on the barrels thereafter, which was a huge aesthetic improvement in any event to my mind.

A good morning shoot. Far-better to use this gun than to have it sitting on a rack somewhere. I must say..... that if I were to be forced to use just one gun, this one would be a good candidate.

It was in a shop full of black guns and handguns. They didn't know or care what it was. It needed a pad replacement and cleaned.

I wasn't looking for another 12-gauge pump, far from it, but this one spoke to me rather loudly. I'd seen it earlier that year and had researched it enough to know that unless it had major problems (that I couldn't see) that the price was a no-brainer. It's a pre-'41 gun, but it still fits me like a glove. It actually fits me better than a '47 31L in 16 that I "used to" have. That circa 1987 870 Express makes it look pretty good, eh?

I've tracked down a second barrel for this gun, but only if a tube from September of 1950 will fit a circa 1935 year gun. Anybody know if that is a problem or not?

Almost certainly it won't be a drop in fit.

The barrels will have to matched to each other in headspace, and I seem to vaguely recall that the barrel lug changed in design twice.

It's likely WAY more trouble than it's worth.

The RST "Nice Shot" is shown as "out of stock" on the website and to my knowledge has been for months.
