I have a little Belgian 16 guild gun that suffers from the same malady. I am looking down on the rib, and in my effort to see it flat I always cheek the comb too hard and it recoils into my cheek. Being unwilling to do either of the fixes you mention I have decided to move it on down the line. I just can't make allowances, like "floating the bird", for high shooting guns.

Man, I hate selling guns.
