You Sir, just made Mr. Good's point for him. Not all, but certainly some of America's guns are great examples of the artistic part of gun making. Even some that were mass-produced and not highly decorated, or even decorated at all. What was that Supreme Court Justice's definition of pornography? "I can't describe it, but I'll know it when I see it"? Guns as art seem to fall somewhere into that category. It is subjective, of course, but there you have it. Over time, the good ones seem to stand out from the rest, be they Optimus Grade Lefevers or old Remington pump guns. It has taken me many years to figure that one out.

high grade American shotguns can be considered as art as evidenced by the three Parker Invincibles in this photo; excellent engraving, superb stock work and elaborate checkering, and real case hardening finish. Propane torches had not been invented yet in that period of time.

Y'all are over thinking this .Yes it is art but the price has more to do with supply and demand . Some of these old Damascus guns would cost 100 times more than what we are paying for them if they were made new again today.The level of skill it would take and the time is not worth the time for the craftsman today.....and most of these people that made these were gifted...Bar wood would be a good example of a gifted craftsmanship to me as well as Damascus....and there are levels of this skill and gifts which we all know .

I just want one of everything with a back up before the Chinese start wanting them.

others include the pre ww2 browning patent a5's, as made by remington and savage. then there is the remington model 8. and perhaps the most elegante pump gun of all, the remington model 17.

The Model 12, the Model 37, all great American 'works of art'

most of the pre ww1 american made sxs hammer guns fit the bill. the parkers being the most attractive.
