Gents, I just acquired a Scott 16 gauge with 1 oz. proofs and wondered if any of you had shot any of the Herter's 16 ga. shells that Cabela's carries, supposedly made in Italy by Cheddite. They are a 2 1/2 dram, 1 oz., 1160fps load. It's getting extremely hard to find 16 ga. shells at any price below $10-12 per box. Thanks, Marcus

Haven't shot any 16's but have burned through a boat load of the 12's. Very good quality, I've shot the game loads and the target loads in 1oz and 1 1/8 oz for SC's.

Marcus, I have shot cases of these and I love them. Very very clean and soft shooting. They are second behind RST for me!!! Bob Jurewicz

Shot both on doves in September. Noticeably warmer than RSTs. Not bad in an American gun, but too warm for my very light English 16. A gun over 6-lbs might be all right. At ~$6 a box, the price is pretty spectacular.

I would put them just a bit under Remington Gameloads in 16 gauge in punch. Not RST's, but nice shells at a very nice price.

Any guess as to pressures?

If your Scott is a screwgrip gun, they might be all right. This 16 of mine is easily as dainty as a Skimmin & Wood gun and even though it's in proof for 2 3/4-inch, I don't push it that hard.

I have used them in my Parker Trojan 16. For Clays a little too hot for me. Needed them for the Hulls, re-loading I drop down to 7/8 oz and a bit less velocity. Hunting they ought to be a good shell.
If recoil is an issue in your gun due light weight or old wood I would go to RST's Friend of mine shoots RST 16's in his VH Parker, we have traded off shells just to see, RST's recoil is milder than the Herters 1 oz load

Since the Herters shells are produced in Italy they may conform to CIP pressure standard. To be sure of their chamber pressure I would want an independent opinion by Tom Armbrust, he may even have data from previous test but be cautious because ammo manufactures change components and propellants often during production runs of different lots.

I shoot them in my Sweet 16, then cut them to 2 1/2" and reload down for my 2 English doubles. As stated, Cheddite hulls.
