There was some design to the checkering at the grip - notice the peak straight behind the trigger in the second pic. Seems familiar but I can't place it.
The bright phillips would seem to date (at least some of) the repair.

No I did not, but I think someone got a deal if they do not mind it being a low number. It would be a great action for a restoration project. Although I suspect the rear sight would not be drilled correctly for a Lyman 48.
