I came across a wonderfully svelte 20ga SxS in good shooter condition at a good price. It is a sidelock gun with straight grip gun. The buttstock has plain grain and is in sound condition. Unfortunately, the LOP is about 2" too short for me. Restocking the gun would probably cost more than the price of the gun.
I've heard of people doing buttectomies on pistol grip guns rather than doing a full restock. Due to the angles involved with a pistol grip, the glue surface area can be quite large which ensures a strong bond. It is not clear to me whether such large surface areas are possible with a straight grip gun.
Anyone ever do a buttectomy on a straightgrip gun? Is it possible? Does it work well? Cost?
TIA
