This was my prize for the first shot I fired at a bird. I took this picture for my stepfather. The gun belongs to him. He got it from an estate of a friend that passed away. The gun fits well enough. The LOP is 14 1/2" and the barrels are 27 3/4". The gun weighs six lbs and an ounce on my scale. You can see that both the wood and metal need help.

Looks like a good clean wouldn't hurt . No risk of loose ribs as they will be brazed .

Skip, back up 40 yards and with load of choice shoot at a wide enough piece of paper to capture the load. Draw a 30" circle over densest portion of pattern and count pellets and do check book math to establish percentages. Don't waste time with pellets outside the circle as you can find the pellet count per ounce online. Gil PS: The gun doesn't need as much help as the snipe depicted. These picture posing posts that I've seen you use over the years, do you carry them with a sling or what?

Man, that stock has seen more than a few miles of rough road. I am going to guess that its first owner was a one-gun shooter.
Such a long, long time to be gone, and a short time to be there.

Gil, I hate patterning a gun. I did it once with a four-ten to see if the pattern was adequate but that was the only time. Maybe I can just fire a couple of shots out over open water and see if the spread is sorta wide, kinda tight, or somewhere in between. The four days of rain last week killed me. It probably only raised the water a little over a foot but that equates to quite a few acres on the lake basin. I walked a few miles to shoot at four birds and somehow I managed to kill three of them. Then I paddled around and jump shot at the few that were feeding on floating peat mats. Killed the first two of those I shot at but them missed two out of the next three. None of the birds are shot up and they were all taken between 20-30 yards. Maybe I just nipped them with the fringe of the pattern.

I'm sure Kyrie or another expert on Spanish guns will be along shortly to explain the markings and talk about Zabala Hermanos. They made shotguns to any ordered price point, much like any other Spanish maker.. --- snip --- No need for me to say anything - you guys have it nailed :-)

Skip, that's two "boat" guns from Spain that you have. You now have a Spanish Armada. Gil

My F.S. (Francisco Sarriugarte) looked as bad as your gun. I took the thing out hunting first to test her out. I liked it so well I refinished the stock, put a new butt pad on, and sent the barrels to PA24 to have them re-blacked. She looks nice now and is a wonderful little gun for informal trap and pheasant. Enjoy your gun.
Practice safe eating. Always use a condiment.
