Just to add to the mix, I second the kerosene lamp usage. Another option is taking Rig Universal Grease and add chalk line chalk. Obviously a little messy, but you have a couple color choices, I like the blue. My thought has always been to put a thin coat of spray adhesive on the metal part and then using a plastic bottle, like a magnum eye dropper, and spray the chalk powder onto the adhesive and then fit the metal to the wood. I thought of it as I use the chalk dust in a squeeze bottle to check air movement when bow hunting. Might just work. Randy

Permatex non-drying Prussian Blue from the auto parts store. Been using it for 30 years.

Mr. Huges,
How in the world do you keep the stuff off your hands? I have used this stuff and seem to wear it forever! No doubt this is the result of being a ran amateur.
Jim
Enjoyed your book...how about another one soon?

Jim, Not meaning to be a smart ass, I don't often get it on my hands. I use a soft toothbrush to apply it from a smear placed on a scrap of sheet iron. Small parts that must be hand-held are messy, but I can't remember it ever being a problem a paper towel couldn't cure. Maybe I'm just used to it. The brush is more of a problem,I do return it to an upright back-of-the-bench holder and don't lay it on the bench.
Glad you enjoyed the book (I assume you meant Double Shotguns?) The manuscript for Double Shotguns Vol. II will be going to the publisher (Countrysport Press) in a couple of weeks and will be out next year. I'm planning to be at the Pintail Point Vintage Cup to introduce it.
