I don't think I've ever shipped a gun through the USPS, although I received one--from England--at my local rural post office several years back. Might have been others I've received. Cannot recall any problems.
I'm currently awaiting news on one, scheduled arrival today, and I've been tracking it using their system. So far, it seems clumsier to me than UPS tracking--and I'm beginning to wonder whether it's flown off with Santa in his sleigh. Left Louisville at 4 a.m. today; nothing on further progress over 12 hours later, and the next stop should be Des Moines. If it doesn't get there by early tomorrow morning, then it will be a minimum of 2 days late vs scheduled arrival--and shipped priority 2 day. Of course this is the worst time of year for shipping issues, so I have my fingers crossed.
I've had pretty much 100% good luck with UPS, both sending and receiving. I did have one coming from the East Coast, and their tracking system showed it took a roundabout route. Got as far as Chicago, then headed back east. I was concerned, called the dealer who sent it, but about that time it made a U-turn and headed back to flyover country. Arrived safe and sound, albeit roundabout and not very timely.
