David- Reminds me of Dennis Smith's tagline- "Simple elegance," and something he stated recently-"It is better to do something simple well, than to do something complicated poorly."

Do you have some stout ribs underneath to try to keep that wide material in line?

Mike, there are two cherry cleats 7/8"x 24" spanning the top which is 36 5/16" wide. The boards were quarter sawn and this should stop the top from cupping.

The boards were almost rough sawn when I got them, only the one side was planed. With highly figured boards, running them through a jointer or planer going the wrong way will rip out some of the figure and so you only do that once to a board and then you chalk it for orientation through the jointer or planer.

It's hard to glue up 5 boards 90" long without starving a joint, the cleats help to hold them in place while putting pipe clamps on alternately top and bottom.

JDW, nice job; nice, simple lines. That table will be around for a long time. You don't need no "steenkin"veneer or turned legs. Gil

Wingshooter, I use a burnisher I inherited. It is hardened steel, but it has longitudinal grooves. Works good for turning the curl.
Those curls were from a solid walnut newel post I was repairing.
Apologies for the misdirection.

That 870 stock was hard to make.
It could use some skip line checkering though.

The newel post.

Out there doing it best I can.

Generally folks will not accept guns with maple stock, very tuff if you are trying to sell it. Browning did a run of Citoris wth maple stock and they did sell well and they had a dump on them
