That's how we often learn, through costly mistakes. Those lessons stay with us, if we are smart. We've all been there, in other ways. I did something similar, just weeks ago, with my grain combine. The automatic header height control would not work and I spent hours trying to find the problem, to no avail. Finally called the J. Deere dealer and had a service tech sent out. Prolly cost me $200 to learn that my hydraulic pump was getting a bit weak and all I had to do to get it to work was bring the engine up to operating speed.
Grandaddy's favorite saying was, "Fool me once, shame on you ........... fool me twice, shame on me." You won't ever overlook that again. Me either.
