I have a decent W&C Scott that has a loose right hammer on the tumbler square. It is slightly off face also, but not enough yet I don't believe to worry about.
Does anyone have an experience with a TIG person or gunsmith who can fill in the area and refit?

I had a drilling hammer that was loose, they have two hammer faces on the right hammer and the rifle face was worn at an angle also. I had these guys work on it and it came back perfect yet looking like they never did a thing. It is a perfect match to the OLD gun.

Stallones,
I've had work done by this shop. Amazing work. Many gunmakers/smiths use them. The work is crazy precise and the cost is reasonable too. Contact Del Whitman if you need a better recommendation than mine. And while the gun is in there....have them touch up the locking bolt and the hook....refit it when it comes back...it'll ready for the next 150 yrs.

a ball peen hammer in skilled hands will fix the loose hammer and the slight off face problem...the job can also be done without the use of the hammer, but the skilled hands are essential to success.

stan: a torch and used motor oil are very useful for annealing and then rehardening small gun part such as springs, hammers and sears...before the invention of the gas torch, gunsmiths/blacksmiths used a coal fire.

neither the torch nor the coal fire are of much value in gun work without the skill to use them to achieve successful outcomes.

however, one can cook hot dogs with both; without much skill being required.

anyone here ever dabble in the repair and or reproduction of soft iron muzzle loading firearms?

tried it years ago, but with little success due to a lack of patience and skill on my part. one really needs a lot of mentoring to learn how to do it right. sadly, all i had was a one week hands on rifle buliding course, followed by books and articles written by others.

i did build a couple of rifles. both shoot. both look ok, sorta...still have erm. not for sale.
