Appears to be consistent with the way Purdey did things back then, the serial number is on the trigger guard extension--check Dallas' book for verification. While having the book in hand, check out Plate 26 in the color section, you'll see a pair of Purdey B-I-W hammerguns with a similar rib to breech face abutment as the subject gun.
