I'd be surprised if Phil Bourjaily was careless and wrong in identifying this gun as a sidelock.

It's quite a bit more expensive than the triggerplate action Dickinsons -- the 28 ga. guns in Cabela's stores go for about $500 less.

Nobody is making a pinless sidelock for 2K. That looks like a side plated box lock. Still a nice looking starter gun if it does not weigh too much.

You may be right ... but nobody was making and selling a triggerplate action SxS for less than $1500 either -- until the AKUS-made Dickinson.

Seems I recall that S&W advertised something about having their own factory in Turkey when they came out with those doubles. Probably a bit "over-hyped"?

That is one damn fine looking little gun. Awesome case colors, and the wood to metal fit around the locks is perfect. I love those top ribs they put on these guns.

Phil Bourjaily is no idiot. If he said it's a full sidelock, I would be very surprised to learn different. We'll soon know.

I remember this claim too -- that the guns were made in their own factory. To paraphrase a famous prevaricator, probably "it depends upon what the meaning of the word "own" is".

If it is a true sidelock, it is pinless, and a real bargain.

Hard to believe at this price...

Take a close look at the 'Estate Lux' model from the Dickinson Arms website. Dickinson Arms describes this gun as a sideplated premium trigger plate gun.
http://www.dickinsonarms.com/product.aspx?uID=23

Then compare that gun to the Cabela's Plantation Grade that Phil Bourjaily is holding and describes as a full sidelock.
http://www.fieldandstream.com/blogs/the-...=SOC&dom=fb

Don't they appear to be the same gun with the exception of the slight schnable forend of the Cabela's version?

After a little research, I believe Wild Skies has it correct. Sideplate, not sidelock. Phil has it wrong, I think. Actually, as Adam mentioned previously, it would be hard to believe it is a true sidelock, even for the Turks, at this price.

But I like it.

Just spoke to the owner of Dickinson and the Plantation guns are indeed sideplated models... not sidelock. Still nice guns.
