Heck of a nice rifle. He is going to be spoiled for really nice shooting tools. Nice work!

Wow, a lot nicer than the plastic stock Stevens 87 my dad gave me!! BTW, if you can see a way to move the front lens on that Chinese scope, the 25 yd parallax can be tuned out. Unscrewing the front lens about 1 turn on a 4X scope of mine fixed the parallax for me when I moved it to my 10/22 and sighted it in for 50 yds instead of the 100 yds most scopes are set for. Too bad if the lens ring is super glued.

Thanks for the information on the scope. I'll see if it looks like it can be moved. My dad said he could recall moving the adjustment turret for and aft on some of the old scopes to adjust the parallax. No doing this on one of these scopes. If anone is interested, here is some info on the scopes if anyone is interested. http://www.grubeeinc.com/Wolf%20Pup%20Scope.htmJohn

Sweet looking 514! I like the customization you've done to it.
I have a 514 carbine that my folks gave me for Christmas in 1962 or 63, as they did for my older brother in 1959 or 1960. I shot a pile of ground squirrels with it.

That has to be about the nicest looking 514 I've ever seen. Good job. What a great memory for you and your son on the squirrel hunt.

This is why I come here. I have one, looked it over 100 times and never saw any potential, now this. Did you rework the original stock, or start fresh?

I really like that 514 single shot with the lightweight barrel, scope and all the custom appointments. Very cool rifle, pics and story. And I'm tickled to see my book influencing a younger generation. Years ago I did a story on remodeling a 513T for a Little Brother when I was in the Big Brother program. The story was published in Rifle magazine.
My grand-nephew was here to visit with his parents yesterday, he is almost 3 and a bit young for a custom rifles. I gave my niece, Robbie's mom, my Dad's .22 Kit Gun for her baby shower, so he's got one .22 waiting.

This is actually the third 514 I have done something similar to. The first was for a friend many years ago, his son never showed much interest in shooting so he sold it to a mutual friend who's son enjoyed it very much. The second I did just to see if I could do one better than the first and sold it down the road 25 years ago. SDH. I think I remember reading that article many years ago. Regards, John

Congratulations to son and Dad! My goodness....55 years ago that was me...but the rifle certainly wasn't like that. Nice work.
