Hello Jpardis Welcome on your first posting It will be our pleasure to review and discuss your issue. However, we will be needing some more detail. Can you tell us who made the sxs, and model, etc Pictures would be helpful, www.photobucket.com will host your pictures for free and you can put them here. Again, welcome Mike

Take a look here This will give you some info on your shotgun http://www.shotguns.se/html/spain.htmlYes, what mc said And if that does not rectify the issue, I would feel that this shotgun also needs a good cleaning and maybe look for a wayward piece of shot. Mike

Does the safe slide on and off when the gun is closed ? Is the extractor cam in the forend free ? Check these first . As it would seem the barrel will come off , I will assume that the fault lies inside so could be one of several things that can not be found without stripping the gun down .

Hi mc,mike, gunman. with the lock removed same results. Safety slides back and forth and forend functions properly. I will check out the site you posted mike and thanks to all who tried to help, I will break down the shotgun to find out what's going on with the internals, thanks for your help, jim

At the beginning of this bird season a friend showed up with a SxS that he couldn't open and a little grease fixed the problem. The gun looks mighty dry, maybe a little grease would loosen things up.

I don't think grease or oil will help . Some thing inside is at fault . It could be that the cocking dogs have worn and are not rearing on the hammers having "slipped "underneath ,It could be that a spring has broken . Can you cock the gun with barrel off by pushing the dogs [lifters] down against a hard wood surface such as a bench edge ?Silly thought is the extractor jammed ?
