I am talking about between the barrels and action face not the water table.
I can easily pull a piece of copy paper through the gap.

and generally, up to .004 day light between breech and receiver face is considered by my gunsmith to be safe...but, as always, get professional advise before shooting any old gun, weather off face or not.
Then it's off face. Paper is .003 to .006 depending on weight.
It will only get worse.
If 'ol Ed said that a gap you could toss a live cat through was OK, would you believe him??? They must have used some really thick smoke to fit those barrels.
