What great detective work to find it! I would love to hear more of the story!

Would really like to see some more detailed photos of this rifle. Might be able to tell you more about it. Creating a replica (known as a bench copy because you can have this original on the bench) and follow every detail as you reproduce it with a new gun. The guys at www.Americanlongrifles.com Will be glad to help you along with the project.

I only have the Bedford and Cumberland county books, and of course on mention in them. I have volume 2 of the Patchbox book, and will search it when I get the chance. You have a special dad.

I will take more (and better) pictures when I get a chance. I really appreciate the help with this. I never know how far off topic I can stray, but I knew there would be a wealth of knowledge here.

I didn't know getting a "kit" was an option? I have never gotten into this type of gun before, the only kits I have seen have been generic Hawken type guns. I know that building from scratch is beyond my talents, but I think I can manage a kit build.

CHAZ, I don't know for sure if starting out with a kit is an option either, but it's worth investigating and could be a really satisfying fun project.

I tried to measure the bore and can't. I will have to slug the barrel I guess. It is a very deep 7 groove rifling and I can't mic it. The barrel is 39" long, and it weighs almost 9 1/2 pounds. Here are some more pics. I have my registration into the longrifle forum and will post there as soon as it goes through.
