Leave this barrels as is. That gun is great.
Would you repaint the head on a untouched Mason Premier Black Duck?

Owd. I had the ward brothers repainted a pair of their decoys and sign 14 others I found at the land fill. Many years ago. Steve charged me 40 dollars to repainted the pair. They signed all the rest for free. Nice guys. They even told me that my decoys, all but one of them, had been made in 1936-1937 time frame. Showed me how the tail was different on them. Don't know why they changed the style but they returned to the original style in late 1937.
I used the small spread every year for two decades just one hunt a year. Use to handle them like glass decoys. Took a well known collector of Ward decoys hunting over them. When he saw them in good light he just about came unglued. Tried to buy them for the next few hours. Always figured working decoys ought to be used like they were intended. So if I had a mason decoy and could have it repainted by the factory I might be tempted at least.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
Maybe I should have explained the guns situation a little more. This is a 30" 12ga with heavy barrels that had some pitting that would keep it from being a shooter. Because the barrels had such good thickness to them Kirk Merrigton was able to do some awesome work to get them back to perfect condition minus the refinishing which is now a necessity. The gun is a 99%er not including the barrels.
So the pattern is still there and the re-finishing will bring it out again? I had heard Dale Edmonds would be a good choice.
Thanks again

Please post some more pictures after it is completed, Mark. That is one beautiful Lindner Daly.

To paraphrase the common expression " What would Lindner do?"
I believe Lindner, and most other of his contemporary quality gun-makers across Europe and Britain would have said that that every once in a while, when sufficiently worn, barrels needs to be re-browned or re-blued. I don't think they would have advocated that they be hidden away in safes and only handled with kid gloves. They are tools....very fine tools but tools none the less and meant to be used and well cared for.
The fixation on originality in North America is a predictable outcome in a category of collectibles where deceit is possible and probable.

It's a European gun. Go for it!
I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.

Be able to advise better if we could see more of the barrels and the rest of the gun. Besides we love looking at Lindner's. From what little I see I think you will come out better to leave it as is - which is beautiful.
