Remington rolling block in 50-70 govt and another in 8x58RD, both Swedes. Oh and an NEF in .17 HMR which is a whole lot of fun considering its price point.
Looking for a nice Snider Enfield at the moment.

I killed several whitetails with a .22 Long Rifle, and even killed one with a stick. THat does not mean it is a good idea. Just like the .22 LR, the .25-20 is a small game round. Period. People can pull little stunts all they want, but that does not make it smart.
BTW-no, I will not divulge any details of the deer mentioned. It was a long time ago in a different world and under different circumstances.

I have a Ruger No.3 carbine in .30-40 Krag that is a lot of fun to use and plenty of gun for most hunting.

Marc, the 25-20 is deer legal in many states. ...but who cares(not that I don't take your word on the subject - I don't), but I've only shot crows and toothy varmints with it. The Fraser rifle came out of the north of England by a well-known collector/seller of Frasers. Due to the lack of the 250 cartridge, the rifle was re-barreled to 25-20. The old English vicar, by his accounts did shoot his fair share of roedeer with the pip-squeak round.

Legality of the cartridge has no bearing on whether or not it is a smart and humane way to kill a whitetail. If you surveyed 100 people I bet you might be able to find one who could give an example of a law in this country that was not a good move on the part of the government.
The largest roe I have killed may have run 45#if he just finished eating and it was pouring rain on him and he had his full winter coat. And this was in far southern England where they are larger than their northern kin. Please tell me how well it worked for you on some of the roe you have shot.
And please re-read my post where I said it could be done, but it was not a smart move.
Sorry for the rant, but I took your post as rather snotty, which is far different then I normally see your posts. If it was not menat as such, then pretend I did not write the above verbage. If you were trying to be snotty, then please read the above verbage again.

Actually, what I'd like is one of those Stevens Favorites from Headrick's article a couple issues back! I've been looking for one (not of that quality) but most of the ones I've found have been pretty used up. What should one expect to pay for a decent shooter?
