Finally my Xmas project is almost complete. The security of the case is you have to break into my house, get past 2 dogs, break into my gun room, get into the case and then get the gun out of the case. It is the last part I haven't worked out yet. There are two 5/8 OD / 3/8 ID tubes of 10" and 28" welded to a hinge that is bolted to the case, that fit down the barrels of the gun. The idea is to put a locking device in the 28" tube that expands in the chamber so you have to break the gun to lock and unlock the device. It is the device that is the sticking point. I've tried the friction mechanisms found in trekking poles but they wouldn't stick. I've researched expanding anchors, nuts, etc. but can't seem to get something that really works. Would like to hear some creative ideas other members might have. imagur image hosting 30 mb

Tamid, that is a very inventive attempt at a solution to displaying the guns but staying onside with our storage laws. I don't have an answer for you but will be thinking about it and reading others' posts with interest. What material are the poles made of?
I'm also thinking about how to adjust your lighting so there isn't such and obvious dark area where the barrels are. The sides plus top and bottom are well lit but the middle is missing light.

Lovely work by the way. Very unique. Excellent ingenuity.
I would make threaded cartridges wherein the base required a unique spanner. Let the case head bear on the chamber, and it would hide the threaded sleeve.
Similar to what is used for security doors in prisons, hospitals, psych wards. Or for that matter, lug nuts on aluminum wheels.
Out there doing it best I can.

Found this http://omegagunlock.com/shotguns-overunder I was looking for one that was available in the U.K. a few years ago but couldn't trace that. Is this about what you are looking for? Lagopus.....

Is there a way you could lock/jam the hinge that swivels the pole out? If it couldn't move, I don't think you could get the gun off the pole

Kudos on the casework- as an amateur woodworker, I appreciate the art and the artisan. That case is functional art.
To your question: what I can envision might not be affordable or practical, or even possible- but you asked for ideas: a brass rod that is threaded for adjusting the length specific to the barrel length of the firearm; the breech end has spring loaded dogs that open into the rim recess of the chamber. The muzzle end twists to retract the dogs, and is secured by a cylinder lock.
Again, I commend your efforts to display the work of artisans past, constrained by the exigencies of the present.

How about something that locks the trigger guard? That would secure both ends of the shotgun.

I agree, a bolt through the trigger guard from the back, a bar or plate and a typical mag wheel lock on the rod would stop a thief cold. Nice case, and I like the way you secured the guns! Best, Craig
