Canvasback, I disarm the grizzly bear repellant device when I am home. I then rely on either a loaded 12 ga. pump shotgun, a loaded revolver, or an SKS with a 30 round magazine to deal with any potential intruders.

I understand your storage compliance laws and wonder if some bureaucrat would be satisfied with Tamid's ideas. I also wonder about some burglar bending barrels attempting to pry a nice gun free. And since anyone who knew something about this idea might come equipped to defeat it, it might be a waste of time. Knowing what I know, I would bring an angle grinder with cut-off wheels and slice off all of those pieces of 5/8" tubing near the hinge within 5 minutes. I don't mean to be critical of the design, but to be secure you need to think like a thief and think about pitfalls. Did I mention how badly that pepper spray burns any exposed skin?
