Boric acid would also work, it's milder than Naval Jelly, but stronger than vinegar. It's not so prone to "Flash Rusting" like Naval Jelly. Six heaping tablespoons of powder per gallon of hot water.

I prefer wood to plastic, leather to nylon, waxed cotton to Gore-Tex, and split bamboo to graphite.
