20% at the brick and mortar stores around my place. Doesn't matter if they sell nice stuff, or mostly junk. They all seem to want 20%.

Why not sell/list it yourself ? I'll sell a gun that I know is right myself, but if I find myself owning something with issues - finish, cracks, loose, etc - then I'd rather sell it to a dealer or consign with someone to let them deal with any issues related to returns. Even when you let someone return a gun, they are still upset about the shipping they lost. I'd rather not deal with that stuff. With a brick and mortar consignment, everyone can touch the gun who is interested and decide if they want it or not, whereas if I try to sell it I have to ship and wait to see if they want to keep it, or if listing locally I have spend my time running around to meet people. Sometimes it isn't worth the hassle.

Well yes, when dealing with old guns some will have issues, its inevitable, but also the lack of disclosure of those issues that leads to return problems IMO.
Hands on is fine, and as you say eliminates returns but most guns today are sold by pictures, descriptions and ads on line.
For me,I enjoy selling and buying but not paying someone 20%,for same thats the way to go, or auction (15% sellers).

Like DAM said, they DO do both. But most lean towards consigning these days - especially Barnett and H&H. OWD
Steve does consignments, but owns most of his inventory. JR
