It pushes the top lever trip into place keeping the lever open until the rib extension pushes it clear upon the barrels closing. The Fox uses this system where as the typical A&D Purdey double under bite system relies on the locking bolt contacting the rear portion of the front under lug to keep the top lever open. As long as the trip is in its proper orientation the bottom plate screw will take care of everything for you.
