Curious if high end dealers such as CSMC, WLM,Steve Barnett, H&H etc.. purchase high end guns in the $20K ~ $225K price range or if their inventory is consigned?

Like DAM said, they DO do both. But most lean towards consigning these days - especially Barnett and H&H.
I've heard at least one well known, high-end dealer has had some trouble paying consignors, too. The guns were sold, but the consignor never received a check.
CSMC will write you a check, but it will be for far less than the gun is worth.
Are you looking to sell some stuff?

And don't forget, some of their used inventory is bound to be trade-ins.

My experience has been that about 95% of the really high end guns are consigned to the Internet dealers. Exceptions being when they have really fleeced someone. Some of the stupid pricing on these guns reflect that the Internet gun dealers don't have any skin in the game.

I consigned a pretty inexpensive Purdey--16ga back action extractor gun, sleeved, choke tubes--with Champlin some years back. Sold pretty promptly, I got what I wanted out of it.

I've had very pleasant dealings with George Caswell at Champlins. He knows guns. I wouldn't hesitate dealing with George as a buyer or to consign. Fair and honest imho. Plus, he's a bird hunter.

I consigned a couple of times with Steve Barnett, a Grant and a Purdey hammer gun. Both guns sold and I got all I was asking. If anyone can sell a gun Steve can.

Thanks for the responses . What is the current consignment % running these days on the high end gun market. Any dealers offering flat fees?
