So I had a JP Sauer arrive today. Cleaned it up and love it. 6lb, 6oz. feels pretty nicely balanced. Also feels built like a tank, locks up like a vault, has ejectors, and still in pretty darn good condition for a gun of this age.
But I do have some specific questions (plus I'll take any general info y'all have) as follows:
1) the stock has a bit of 'haze' or 'film' at some spots it seems. Wood is great other than this... Any way to remove this haze/film without removing actual finish? seems it just needs a deep clean, but what is a good product to use?
2) the barrel flats clearly show imp. cyl and mod. choke, but when i use my choke gauge it shows imp. mod/imp. mod. why choked so much tighter than the flats read? I realize best way would be to measure actual diameters and such with a different gauge but I don't have that available to me. i need to figure this out b/c I don't know if i need a barrel guy to open these up or not. i need at least a IC/M gun for grouse and woodcock. Or I was even considering tubes...
3) as you can see on the choke gauge pic, there is a little rust at the tips of the barrels. this is really the only rust on the gun other than a spot on the trigger guard which i've cleaned good as i can with 0000. bores are brilliantly shiny/mirror. should i live with this rust on barrel tips or should i have a barrel guy shorten them by 1/2" to get rid of that rust and reset a new brass bead?
4) anything else you can tell me from the flats?
Thanks in advance!
