PLEASE don't cut those barrels for the sake of a tiny bit of rust. Polish it away the best you can, get it stopped, and forget about it. It's a hunting gun.

Not cutting the barrels, don't think I could live with anything shorter than 26" though I do like 26" for grouse woods. If they were 28" or longer, I would consider cutting it back to remove the rust.
For now, I've done as you suggested. Removed best I can (will try some corrosionx also to get better) and I will just make sure I keep after the rust / keep oiled.
