I have 3 British rifles that belonged to Indian maharajahs. All three of them have stampings on the bottom of the stocks just down from the pistol grip that show the numbers identifying the princely state and below that the number of guns that have come from that state. I was told long ago that the stampings were put on the bottom of the stock when they were exported from India. Not all guns coming from India had the numbers. (Why is another story) I am asking that anyone of the members who have a gun that has the stampings on them and also the name of the maharajah that owned it would help me me by sending me the numbers on the stock and the name of the maharajah. I can use that info to determine what numbers belonged to a certain maharajah and allow me to identify other guns to a certain maharajah that have the ID numbers, but no maharajah name on the gun. I can't get an image of the small stampings to work on this site. Thanks for your help. [img][/img]
