I haven't had any trouble with the Priority Mail tracking either. Came in handy when my tax guy said he didn't get my stuff, but the U.S. Government said he did.

Well, live and learn. I didn't use Priority because I wasn't in a hurry for the barrels to arrive and I didn't insure because I have a separate insurance policy on my guns. Clearly, I made a huge mistake here. Also, I have to claim ignorance because this is the first time I have ever used USPS for shipping anything gun related. I normally go UPS or Fed-Ex and haven't had any problems there. I was told by the gunsmith to go USPS because UPS is no good in his area. He also said go Priority, but I missed that part in the email. At the point of origin when I originally sent the package the postal worker told me other than the time frame, it made no difference if I went priority or ground. Well, that NOW does not appear to be the case. I'm very upset over this matter, but whether I went priority or ground, I entrusted and paid the asking rate for this service and I expected my package to arrive. This is federal worker incompetence at its' best.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Personally I have had much better luck with USPS than UPS. Don't give up hope, they may very well turn up.

I had some weirdness on my last USPS shipment. It worked out in the end, but not without some brain damage. FEDEX costs more but....

My daughter shipped an item USPS but used one of the remote locations in a local grocery store. She insured it, got the tracking number, etc. Somehow the package "disappeared" before the post office picked it up (we assume), so the tracking number never got into the USPS system. Post office wouldn't honor the insurance because the tracking number wasn't valid. She did manage to buffalo the store manager into paying the insurance amount. Moral: if you're using USPS, do it at the post office. Buzz, didn't mean to hijack your thread; hope those barrels show up.

Always USPS, Registered. On high ticket items the insurance rates on Registered is actually cheaper than plain Priority, even with the Registered fee.

And the USPS will always pay, not so UPS or Fedex.

In 20 years of shipping, including eBay items and business items, they actually only lost 3 shipments and damaged one. They always pay.

And as described by F2F above, bring it to the PO and get a receipt when it's scanned.
