I should have also added "or fishing" as well. I spent several memorable times Lake Trout and Walleye fishing in Canada primarily on Stormy Lake up in the Dreden area of Ontario. The lake is 12 miles long with only one camp on it. The only other fisherman you'd see were an occasional Indian. They used to cut ice in the Winter and store in in a cave with a commercial meat locker door on it and it would hold all year. I can remember going in there at cocktail hour and chipping off some for drinks and it was among the clearest and cleanest ice I've ever seen . Great times, excellent fishing with good friends. Jim

One of my sons and I had the distinct pleasure of a turkey hunting visit at the farm with low country Gil and one of his Savannah cohorts this last Spring. When I suggested Gil stay in the cabin, I warned him it was pretty rough.
He asked about bathroom facilities and I told him that they abounded, but involved a shovel. We're not savages, there is an outhouse (complete with a bucket of lime and a scoop) down a trail in the woods, but the hornet's nest on the side wall seems to put people off. The hornets haven't used that nest since I doused it with wasp killer a coupla years ago, honest...Geo

The camps I've usually stayed in have consisted of personal tents with a lantern or two hanging on some P-cord, with the bathroom consisting of a hole dug in the ground and a roll of toilet paper hanging on a tree limb.
I did stay in an old hotel in the abandoned town of Iditarod on a moose hunt. I slept like a log on the wood plank floor in my sleeping bag, the other two I was hunting with, not so well-wimps! When I asked how they had slept, one commented; "not worth a f&*k, between your snoring and the hard floor, I don't think I slept all night." Come to think of it I slept in an old abandoned shed on a caribou/moose hunt as well, on Kaskanak Creek off the Kvichak River. I slept fairly well in that shack also. Very primitive, but it kept the rain off.
Some very good memories of most all hunts.

I love the pictures of old time hunting camps often seen in period photographs. One of our posters here has a sporting collectibles business and has posted pics of some of these old camps. My favorite of them all was the tough looking old guy who was sleeping in a big hollow log...Geo
How about some pictures of your own camps?

The politics down here are depressing and the personal feuds make my head hurt. Someone else must have a picture of a favorite place to share...Geo

Here is one taken back at the guides place....our hunting camp is a run down old house in town. No pictures but it does serve the purpose. I hear the birds are rebounding in the area as well. Looking forward to spending some quality time on the high plains this year as I missed it last year.
