A number of shiny new flags were up in the neighborhood starting Friday.

I had ordered a new one from Amazon on the first, hoping with Prime 2 day shipping, it would be here by the 4th. For some reason it hadn't shipped by the next day, so I e mailed Amazon my disappointment and gently rebuked them for their "vaunted two day shipping." Really, I think I've just gotten spoiled. I received a reply in a couple hours, with what appeared to be a long form letter stating that 2 day is not really 2 day, just faster than regular shipping. Grrrr.

Checking the status on Friday, there was "a problem" with the status function for this item, and they were working on it. Continued to be the case the couple more times I checked on it that day. Then early evening Friday the 3rd, status was up again, predicting delivery by USPS Saturday by 8 PM. No typo- that's on the 4th of July by USPS.

At 09:30 Saturday my phone alert went off, and Amazon was telling me the package had been delivered. There it was, delivered by USPS, undamaged, on a national holiday. I quickly set about making the modifications necessary to keep it from wrapping itself around the pole ( a veritable vortex engulfs its location), and attached it to the pole. Crisp and new and in place for the 4th, it still showed the crease lines from packing. That night, she would paint the evening sky lit up by a new 100w equivalent LED flood, far outshining the feeble CFL it had just replaced.

All this for a flag? Yes ma'am, all this for a flag.

Mike
