I think the point was that it was a $2500 shooter, and, as such, if it has been modified a bit over the years, that is not all that relevant. $2500 wouldn't be enough of a down payment to get that engraving started, today. Most guys could shoot that gun in a grouse woods, and not be terribly concerned if it came back with a mark in the stock. The greater mystery, here, to me, is how many grouse a guy in Mississippi gets to shoot in a season! Care to comment, John?
Best, Ted

So you think I stay in Mississippi all the time, Ted? Seriously, it's not too difficult figuring out horses for courses. Next question? JR

Apparently, you do, John. You started the thread. Did you not expect to get some comments. I think you got some good ones. Ted made the point well, Eightbore. I was answering OWD's question about the gun's "correctness". So what if it doesn't fit into what a Francotte 18 is "supposed" to look like, the quality is there in spades. JR

JR The question was posed tongue in cheek, with a bit of mirth, John. However, if you didn't have grouse, you could use it for flying fish, in the gulf. If I needed a 12, in a grousie configuration, I would give it consideration. It is a nice gun, priced well, original, or, not. The last gun I purchased was a 16 gauge Nitro Special, that needed some love (which, it got) in a 26" factory cylinder and modified configuration, 2 3/4" chambers. I like to have some really good guns, and some low end guns around, and I enjoy them all. It is a really good time in history to shop for good quality 12 gauge SXS guns. They aren't selling. Best, Ted

Lol, sometimes us smartasses have a hard time understanding each other's attempts at a humorous goad. No problem.
As for the flying fish, now there's a real idea. It would be hard to watch your piece go over the spray rail during the action. JR

John, somewhere in the South they have those carp that are even jumping into boats. With a good driver, maybe a substitute for those foreign doves folks shoot at most of the year.

Young lady in Florida was killed by a flying sturgeon last week. Quite a tragedy for the outdoor sports. That is a really nice Francotte. I've never seen that frame sculpting on a Grade 18.

As a Francotte lover, that sure is a nice #18 gun.I have never seen those fences on any other, but they sure look lovely. I can never tell about wood, but the whole thing looks lovely, if the bbls check out with good wall thickness...n its tight...Id say its a charming looking gun for the money/ Is it an A&F Gun? cheers franc otte
