It would seem that Carl/Karl Paubel of Pfarrstrae 3, Suhl was active from some time in the mid 1880s till right after WWI. I have strong suspicions that Karl Paubel married into the J. Funk family of gunmaking, who possibly along with a Schmidt mechanic, hung out his gunmaking shingle in 1854. J. Funk & Companie advertised as Exporte nach Ruland, England, U.S.A, which would explain the export/import type stamps. I'd also hazard a guess that Karl had a son by the name of August Paubel but may or may not have toted the ball for the concern. Either way, I'd guess August was born in the 1880s and was a master in his own right by WWI. I'd have to check the list of the fallen, but like Ernst Lindner, it is possible that August Paubel fell in fierce fighting in WWI:

If that was the case, Karl Paubel limbed along till he closed the concern.

Kind Regards,
