The photograph does look like it might be something different, but it's a ruffie hen. I've always wanted to see my favorite coverts in Summer colors and I finally got my chance last Monday. Northern Minnesota is a green buggy hell, as I expected, but beautiful none-the-less. She was on the road picking grit with at least four chicks that scattered upon my approach. The hen stayed on the road to distract me, only flying up to this perch after her babies had gotten under cover. I told her I'd be back in about 60 days.
