My Ithaca has become excessively hard to open, which also cocks the shotgun. Any opinions on why this is happening?

Which model design is it?

Flues model Ithaca's are notorious for that problem.

Cheap solution? Shoot B&P 7/8 oz comp one shells. 1 oz will still be sticky. 1350's a no-no. 1 1/8oz ?, no-no.

Other wise, presuming it is a Flues model, it's in the timing/cocking of the hammers, and there have been threads here about it.

There was 5 different models of ithaca doubles made. ALL different from each other. We cannot even begin to speculate on what the issue is unless you tell us what model you have. Or... If you don't know, post pics.

I was sincere in my answer.
I have at least 6 Ithaca Flues models with varying levels of cocking system binding due to recoil.

You can chase thousandths of an inch, and waste many hours refitting the cocking system on a $200.00 Ithaca Flues field grade.

If the OP posted a serial number even, he could have all the help he needs. There's an old thread here with pictures and a cutaway drawing that shows how the Flues cocking system works, and which pieces typically wear/break, courtesy of a deceased member named Jim I think.
